Sport Fishing

The Los Sueños Marina is the only government sanctioned marina in Costa Rica. The marina boasts 200 wetslips, 100 dry slips, fuel dock and a full time staff, making the Los Sueños Marina the ultimate full service port for many luxury sportsfishing boats and luxury yachts. Boats range from 30 to 180 feet in length!

The waters off of the resort are considered one of the prime bill fishing grounds in the world, with calm waters and short rides to the fishing grounds.

CR Luxury’s Diamond Concierge Team will be happy to customize a charter that best meets your needs. Full and half day fishing tours are available on vessels ranging from 21 to 65 feet. We can also arrange non-fishing charters for day trips to Isla Tortuga and Montezuma, as well as sunset cruises.

Marlin

This fish can grow to 600 pounds, and is a prize catch for all anglers.

It’s a hard catch to reel in, but Costa Rica is one of the top Marlin spots in the world, and from December to April the Marlin will be especially active in the central and southern areas of the country.

Sailfish

The sailfish has put Costa Rica on the map internationally, as every year Los Sueños hots the Billfish tournament, reeling in record catches.

Sailfish can be found year round in the warm Costa Rica waters, peaking from December to March with up to 30 hooks per day!

Dorado

The dorado, also known as the dolphin fish or the mahi mahi, is an exciting catch for all anglers because of their color and speed.

Their concentration is especially high from late May through November, and make quite a delicious catch!

Yellowfin Tuna

These fish are not as large as the Marlin or Sailfish, but they can reach up to 300 pounds and are as fast as lightening, putting up an exciting fight for the angler!

To catch this fish the anglers commonly troll brightly colored lures or rigged bailfish.

Roosterfish

The roosterfish averages 15 to 20 pounds, 40 pounders are common, and fish over 80 pounds have been pulled from the Costa Rican waters.

Live bait such as a feisty blue runner or a hearty small mullet will produce the most roosters.  It is best to free-line them with no weight on the line and give them a second or two after the take before setting the hook.

Snapper

There are many varieties of snapper and the Costa Rica waters are host to more then 50 of these, some of which can even be fished on foot from the beach or river mouths.

Deep seas also produce many snapper, often very large in size, with the Cubera often weighing over 100 pounds.

Each snapper will definitely put up a fight, but they are delicious to eat, and beautifully colored fish.
