Costa Rica is home to a number of amazing volcanoes – there are seven active volcanoes and another 60 dormant or extinct ones.
The Arenal Volcano is, however, the only one with strombolian eruptions, and as such is Costa Rica’s most well-known and highly visited volcano.
Most of the other volcanoes are caldera volcanoes, whose craters are filled with water and rising steam. These are visited by a solid showing of tourists throughout the year.
However, the Arenal and Poás Volcano’s are both breathtakingly beautiful and heart stopping, so they would be the top two Costa Rica Volcano’s for you to first see!
The CR Luxury Diamond Concierge Team will be happy to schedule your trips to see the volcanoes, and any other activities you would like to do while in that region. Some of these activities include:
- Canopy Tours
- Bird Watching Tours
- Trips to the natural hot springs
- Rafting
It is estimated that only ten people in every three million will ever have the opportunity to see a volcanic eruption in their lifetime.
Become one of those people now!
The Arenal Volcano is considered to be one of the ten most active volcanoes in the world.
The Poás Volcano National Park is located in the Central Highlands of Costa Rica. Rising up to 8,885 ft (2,708 m), Poás remains one of Costa Rica’s largest and most active volcanoes.
Although the last major eruption was in 1910, the volcano remains steadily active to this day, and visitors can still see geysers exploding into the air, some reaching as high as 820 ft (250 m)!
Costa Rica is extremely unique, as you can have a getaway filled with luxury, nature, relaxation and adventure.
Nowhere else can you see this abundance of wildlife and natural beauty in a safe environment, with a stable government, friendly people and lavish accommodations.
Nor in one place can you see such diversity of landscape. Mountains rise up against the rolling ocean waters and waterfalls cut through a never ending rain forest. Costa Rica truly is paradise.

Manuel Antonio Park is the most visited National Park in Costa Rica. This tropical rain forest is located on the Central Pacific coastline, surrounded by crystal clear Pacific waters and featuring some of the most beautiful white sand beaches in the country.
An extensive trail system will lead you through a variety of ecosystems, where you can expect to see much wildlife. Some of the most common species found are white faced and titi monkeys, three toed sloths, raccoons, pizotes and many tropical birds.
A mere 20 minute drive north of Los Sueños, Carara National Park offers endless wildlife viewing possibilities. As it is a transition zone between a drier region to the north and a wetter region to the south, Carara presents a wide diversity of plant life with over 1,400 plant species.
Birdwatchers will be interested in the Carara National Park area because of the two life zones creating a variety of birds, including one of the largest remaining wild populations of Scarlet Macaw in Costa Rica.
